Process

Hi there! Thanks for considering Akimbo for your special occasion. My aim is to create an invitation that will set the tone for your wedding day and is a true reflection of you as a couple.

Inspiration

By now, you and your fiance will have made some decisions about your venue, time of year and type of celebration. If you are planning a glam black-tie affair then those bright mix-tape invitations won’t work and a traditional white calligraphy invitation to your casual backyard bash will be similarly confusing to your guests.

Seasons provide a wealth of inspiration; Spring flowers are always a popular choice, but also imagine fallen leaves in rich Autumn (Fall) colours, stunning silhouettes of bare trees, and hot sand and seashells underfoot. Consider your venue; perhaps it has a breathtaking view of city lights, or ivy creeping up the stone walls, or a stunning chandelier in the foyer.

More importantly, consider your own personalities and interests. The globetrotting pair will love a travel-inspired theme, while the computer-game invitation will appeal to the geeky couple. How about incorporating the story of how you met in the queue at Starbucks or that he proposed to you while bikeriding, or your planned honeymoon in Africa.

Design options

We have two design options available:

  • Check out our Off-the-rack catalogue of styles to see if one is just right for you. Your choice of colours and wording is included in the cost.
  • If you want something that’s truly unique, contact me to discuss a Couture design.

You may wish to consider purchasing some samples or a paper selector to help you decide at this point. (These are fully refundable against the cost of your order.)

Details

Consider any other printed materials you will need, such as save-the-date cards, addressing, thank you notes, ceremony programs, place cards, seating charts, menus and favour tags for a coordinated look. You can either order these all at once and save on shipping, or order as you need them to spread the cost.

Wording

Consider your invitation wording. There are many options to cater for different family situations and levels of formality. Bridal magazines, wedding websites and etiquette books are great resources if you need some help. You will need to supply the copy in a Word or Text document exactly as you wish it to appear.

Payment

All initial consultations and quotes are free of charge. For Couture designs, a 50% deposit is required to secure your booking and begin design work, with the balance payable upon approval to print.

Because of software limitations, online orders are to be paid for upfront. If this is an issue (trust me, I get the wedding cashflow thing) simply contact me with your order and I can invoice it manually with the 50/50 payment structure and separate due dates for your invitations and day-of stationery.

Proof

I will promptly supply you with a digital proof, to which you will be entitled two rounds of revisions. Make sure you proofread it very carefully, paying special attention to names, dates and numbers. It’s a good idea to have a couple of pairs of fresh eyes look over it too to make sure.

Additional rounds of proofs will be charged at $30.

Production

If you haven’t already, the balance payment will be due upon your approval. Then your vision will become reality as your stationery is sent to print!

Delivery

Your invitations will be carefully packaged and sent via a courier to ensure safe and prompt delivery. You may wish to specify a daytime address (such as your work or parents’ house) as delivery will occur during business hours.

Follow-up

It’s hard sending my little babies out there in the world never to hear from them again, so I would love to see any photos of Akimbo products in use at your big day. In order to continually improve my service and products, I also appreciate your thoughts and feedback.

Thanks again for stopping by. If you have any further queries, check out the Frequently Asked Questions or contact me.
